About SanPsūkhé Psychology

SanPsūkhé Psychology is an online psychological therapy service founded by Chartered Counselling Psychologist, Dr Tamara Vaughan.

The name SanPsūkhé is a fusion of two words; ‘Sankofa’ and ‘Psūkhé’ (pSee-hee).

Sankofa is a Twi word from the Akan people of Ghana; meaning ‘to go back and get’. It is often associated with the proverb, “se wo were fi na wosan kofa a yenkyiri” meaning ‘it is not taboo to go back and fetch what you forgot.

Psūkhé is an Ancient Greek word meaning ‘soul, life’s breath and spirit’; and is the origins for the word ’psyche’ in psychology.

At SanPsūkhé Psychology, we aim to help you return (San) to the essence and soul (Psūkhé) of who you are.

We specialise in supporting people with their experiences of personal and intergenerational trauma; chronic stress and burnout; and who are looking for ways to reconstruct their lives’ “blueprints.”

Our range of services include trauma informed and anti-oppressive individual psychological therapy & couples therapy; clinical supervision for qualified therapists; and bespoke services.

We hope that you find everything you’re looking for throughout this website, and we look forward to meeting you.

THE INVITATION

When was the last time you felt like you were truly enough?

Not for what you do.
Not for how much you give.
But simply for being who you are?

It’s been a while right?

It’s time to explore a different way of being—one rooted in ease, balance, and self-worth that doesn’t need to be earned.

Let us support you as you return to what’s always been true:
You are already enough.

Our Mission

Rooted in the principles of Sankofa—learning from the past to build a liberated future—and Psūkhé—the breath, soul, and essence of well-being—we have created a space to support you as you work towards reclaiming who you are. Our mission is anchored in these principles.

Rooted in Enoughness

You are inherently worthy—without overworking, over-giving, or proving yourself. We hold space for you to unlearn cycles of burnout and perfectionism, reconnect with your body’s wisdom, and embody a deep sense of compassion and self-trust.

Holistic & Trauma-Informed Care

We recognise the impact of chronic stress, personal & intergenerational trauma, and systemic oppression on the mind and body. Our work is intentionally trauma-informed, integrating psychology, somatic practices, spiritual and cultural wisdoms to nurture a holistic anti-oppressive healing.

Honouring the Body’s Wisdom

Your body holds stories, emotions, and wisdom. We help you reconnect with your body’s signals and cultivate a relationship of trust with yourself. Healing is not just about the mind—it’s about reconnecting with the body as an active participant in the journey.

These values shape everything we do. Here, you are invited to pause, breathe, and step into healing at your own pace—knowing you are already whole, already enough, and already deserving of rest and restoration.

Rest as Resistance & Restoration

We reject the glorification of relentless productivity and exhaustion. We believe rest is not a luxury—it is a necessity and a radical form of self-care. Our work encourages intentional rest, nervous system regulation, and somatic healing practices that help you move beyond survival and into thriving.

Healing in Relationship & Community

Healing is not meant to be done alone. We cultivate spaces where vulnerability is met with care, where your experiences are seen and honoured, and where connection fosters deep transformation. We believe in the power of belonging as a key to healing.

Testimonial

“I was so used to cycling between working hard, achieving a lot and then burning out, then picking myself up again, but after a trauma at work, I totally broke. I realised how much shame and guilt and anxiety I had been carrying my whole life. I won’t lie, starting therapy for the first time in my life felt weird, I didn’t know what to expect and not having certainty isn’t something I enjoyed, but Tamara put me completely at ease; being in this space with another Black woman has been invaluable, I’ve been able to be my true self without holding back and not once feeling judged. I gained so much insight into my life and myself – believe it or not, this is the first time I’d made the links between my mental health and all the physical health conditions I’d had. Tried new things – mindfulness, breathwork; started finding a balance between knowing when to ward hard and look after myself. And I’ve learned how to speak to myself with love. These sessions have been a lifeline.”

Testimonials

“Tamara is an exceptional Psychologist. From our very session I was entirely at ease with her and have always felt able to speak openly and honestly. Over our time working together she has been insightful, encouraging and empathetic, but also challenged me to see things from a different point of view – which has been incredibly useful. Her analyses have helped me shift my perspective and build practices which I’m sure I’ll use for years to come. I couldn’t recommend her enough”
